Time for the next step

I have been working in the fitness industry for over twenty years. My career started as a fitness instructor, but I quickly progressed to the role of club manager and later regional manager. A few years ago I took a quick trip to Boretti as a customer service manager, but I quickly missed the gym world so I returned. After another year and a half of working as a regional manager for a number of clubs, I decided that it was high time for the next step and to follow my own path. With that in mind I sent Romano Morais, one of the founders from Happy Bodies, an email in which I indicated that I was interested in opening my own Happy Bodies branch. He informed me that they were not opening any new branches at that time, but that Ben Romeijn, one of the franchisees, was looking for a partner. After a series of good conversations, I started working as Ben's partner at the Happy Bodies branches in Houten, IJsselstein and Zeist in September of this year.

Happy Bodies clearly distinguishes itself from the average sports club; it is a total solution aimed at safe movement. Many people want to exercise, but often don't know how to start. You can exercise dirt cheaply at large-scale chains such as Basic-Fit and SportCity, but the question remains: how do you start? Happy Bodies offers a unique platform with the Milon circle, which allows you to train in a scientific and safe way with measurable results. Members receive a personal measurement, a tailor-made training schedule, and are well guided and motivated throughout the entire process. By making another appointment during each training, members really feel responsible for their own progress. In short, a wonderful solution for the enormous number of people who do not naturally have the motivation to exercise hard.

The road to success

I live in Haarlem and my working week always starts at the Happy Bodies head office, which is also in Haarlem. Three times a week I drive to the clubs in Houten, IJsselstein and Zeist. During these visits I manage the club managers of these three locations. Together we are committed to making every club a success.

Crossfitter and runner

I am an enthusiastic Crossfitter and an avid runner. I am currently training for the Egmond half marathon, which will take place on January 14. I spend a lot of time outside with my training, but for strength training I of course use the support that the Milon circle offers. This combination of outdoor activities and targeted strength training helps me to stay in optimal condition.

Growing old sustainably and healthily thanks to strength training

We all used to work in the fields, but then a tool like the Milon circle was not necessary. That is different now. Most of us spend eight hours a day behind a desk. Then we get in the car and drive home to cook dinner. Then we flop on the couch to watch Netflix, 'because we earned it so much'. Strength training is crucial for those who want to age sustainably and healthily. You start at the age of 25 decrease muscle mass, and if you don't actively work on that, it will only deteriorate. Do you want to walk behind a walker at the age of 60 or would you rather run a lap? Good strength training also helps to relieve and prevent aches and pains. The fact is that few people really enjoy strength training. They do it more because it's good for them than for fun. A game of volleyball, for example, appeals to more people. The Milon circle makes training fun. The results are measurable and it only takes 35 minutes per training. Then just make one up excuse not to do it.
