You will also reach your goal in small steps

Losing twenty kilos in a month, whoever invents a pill for that, never has to work again. Whatever social media would have us believe, losing weight takes patience, lots of patience. But there is hope. Odin Nijenhuis, franchisee of Happy Bodies in Aalsmeer and Hoofddorp Floriande, explains in this blog how you can stay motivated to achieve your goal.

You have to work on good health

I see many people in my area struggling to adopt a healthier lifestyle. You have to work on good health – just like challenging work and a good relationship. When I spoke to the founders of Happy Bodies about their concept, I was immediately enthusiastic. When they decided to further expand their success through a Franchise formula, so I didn't have to think long. On September 1, 2019 I opened the doors of my first location in Hoofddorp Floriande and on January 15 of this year – the day the gyms were allowed to open again – followed the second location in Aalsmeer.

Wrong expectations

What I find very special to experience is that people often come to us with the wrong expectations. They have the traditional image of a gym in mind: loud music, lots of mirrors, sweaty bodies, heavy weights and see and be seen. Happy Bodies is therefore not a gym, we are a lifestyle club. We are very accessible, there is a homely atmosphere, you have trained your entire body in 35 minutes and – perhaps most importantly – our coaches do pay attention to you. If you have a challenge to take on in the field of health, we are happy to help you.

Gaining weight is a gradual process, losing weight should be too

Out research by Statistics Netherlands shows that about half of the Dutch people aged 20 or older were overweight in 2020. No fewer than 37 percent are moderately overweight and 14 percent are seriously overweight. If people want to do something about it, they often have too big a goal in mind. That can be at the expense of motivation. That ten or twenty kilos of excess weight did not gain in a month and you will not lose it again within a month. Almost always, gaining weight is a gradual process. Every year you gain a kilo, and step by step you become less and less energetic. Until the measure is full.

Burn more energy through the right nutrition

If you want to get rid of your excess weight in a healthy and responsible way, then that too is a gradual process. Crash diets where you have to starve yourself do not work or only temporarily. You lose weight quickly, but the weight comes back just as quickly and that's how you create a yo-yo effect. That is not only very frustrating, it is also dangerous, as it turned out research by Columbia University on behalf of the American Heart Association. It can also work against you. Precisely by maintaining your diet and making the right choices, you stimulate your body to burn more energy.

You eat an elephant in pieces

How do you eat an elephant? In pieces. That is also the advice we give people if they want to lose weight. By setting intermediate goals, you keep yourself motivated. Start with losing five kilos in half a year. Discuss with your coach how to achieve that and be patient. If you look at the progress every week, these may only be small steps, but if you look back after six months, you have shrunk a clothing size!
