'A stronger body ensures that I experience less pain'

Marianne Filius (63 years old) has been a fanatical sports star at Happy Bodies Heemstede for about seven years now. What is special is that Marianne has osteoporosis. That doesn't stop her from enjoying sports. By strengthening her back and abdominal muscles, she has regular periods without pain. In this blog, Marianne explains why she believes that this form of training is so good for her body.

I work as a project manager for the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, am a mother of three adult children, grandmother of two grandchildren and live with my boyfriend, who also has three children. So a busy life. I have been working out at Happy Bodies in Heemstede for about seven years now, to my great satisfaction. More than three years ago it turned out that I have osteoporosis. Because my bones are very fragile, I have a number of intervertebral fractures, which can cause serious back pain. The doctors came with the message that I just have to learn to live with it. We'll see about that, I thought then and rightly so. Strength training turns out to be very good for me. This strengthens my back muscles that surround those fractures. My core is also getting stronger, so my back has less to endure. My body is quite strong and I have regular periods without pain.

Rémon, my trainer at Happy Bodies, has encouraged me to train harder. Many people with such a condition tend to sit on the couch and spare their bodies.
